Michael Gohl is a choir and orchestra conductor as well as an experienced music pedagogue. After degrees in clarinet, he studied choir and orchestra conducting at the Musikhochschule Zürich with André Charlet and later with great masters such as Helmuth Rilling and Antal Dorati.
He is regularly in demand as a guest conductor in international festivals, such as Europa Cantat, the World Symposium on Choral Music, Les Choralies or the Zimriya in Jerusalem. Symphony orchestras like Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra, the Münchner Rundfunkorchester and the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra, invited him to realize his projects for a new and young public. His Jugendchor Zürich is considered one of the finest youth choirs of Switzerland.
Michael Gohl is the director of the music school Zollikon. He lectures at the Zurich University of Arts and has published numerable songbooks.
The Zurich Youth Choir was founded by Michael Gohl in 2005 as a vocal ensemble of Musikschule Konservatorium Zürich MKZ. Its aim is to offer a comprehensive choir education to motivated and talented female singers between 15 and 25 years. Its repertoire embraces all styles and epochs of music. The choir fosters the mutual exchange with other youth choirs and performs regularly in both national and international competitions and festivals traveling to Cuba, Hungary, Germany, France, South Korea and Estonia. In 2010 the Zurich Youth Choir was invited to the European Youth Choir Festival Basel, in 2011 it shared the first prize at the Valiant Forum Murten Classics ex aequo with the Swiss National Youth Choir and went on a second tour through South Korea in 2014.
